The United Arab Emirates is set to host the 15th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice in Abu Dhabi from September 26 to October 1. This significant gathering will bring together representatives from over 97 countries to enhance global cooperation in crime prevention and criminal justice.
The congress will address key security challenges such as cybercrime, organized crime, financial crime, environmental offenses, drug trafficking, money laundering, and crimes targeting children and vulnerable groups. A major area of focus will be the increasing involvement of artificial intelligence and other technologies in crime and law enforcement. While these technologies can aid investigations and improve crime prevention efforts, they also present legal and ethical challenges for criminal justice systems.
The UAE aims to leverage this congress to foster practical cooperation among nations and devise strategies to combat emerging forms of crime. Discussions will also explore the use of technology, international travel, and global supply chains by criminal networks.
The event is expected to culminate in the Abu Dhabi Declaration, which will outline priorities for international cooperation on crime prevention, criminal justice, and the strengthening of the rule of law in the coming years. The UN Crime Congress, held every five years, serves as a crucial international platform for countries to discuss strategies for crime prevention and the enhancement of criminal justice systems.
