The Zayed Sustainability Prize, based in the United Arab Emirates, has seen an unprecedented surge in interest for its 2027 awards cycle, with a record 10,233 submissions from 177 countries. This represents a remarkable 32% increase in entries compared to the previous year. The prize is known for honoring innovative projects that tackle pressing global issues in areas such as climate action, health, food, energy, and water, as well as initiatives by global high schools.
In recognition of their efforts, winners in the categories of climate, health, food, energy, and water will each be awarded $1 million. Finalists in these categories will receive $150,000. Additionally, six high schools will be awarded $150,000 each, with their finalists receiving $25,000. This prize structure highlights the importance placed on fostering innovative solutions across diverse fields.
Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, Director General of the prize, emphasized that this record participation underscores the increasing global demand for practical and innovative solutions capable of enhancing lives. Notably, more than two-thirds of the applications originated from developing and emerging economies, with the climate action category receiving the highest number of entries.
The anticipation for the awards continues as finalists are set to be announced in September. The winners will be formally recognized during the awards ceremony scheduled for January 12, 2027, where their groundbreaking contributions to sustainability will be celebrated.
