The United Arab Emirates has issued a strong condemnation of recent threats made by the Houthi group against Saudi Arabia, particularly concerning the potential imposition of a maritime blockade. In a statement, the UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged the global community to enforce United Nations Security Council resolutions relevant to the situation in Yemen and maritime security in the Red Sea region.

The UAE ministry emphasized the significance of Resolution 2216, which pertains to the conflict in Yemen, alongside Resolution 2722 that focuses on ensuring the protection of navigation rights and the freedom of movement within the Red Sea. The call to action underscores the necessity for international adherence to these resolutions to maintain stability and security in the area.

The UAE also reaffirmed the principle that freedom of navigation in international waters is an established right under international law, specifically citing the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. This convention guarantees the unobstructed passage of vessels, which the UAE argues is essential for maintaining global maritime order.

In its statement, the ministry expressed unwavering solidarity with Saudi Arabia, offering full support for any measures the kingdom might take to safeguard its security and stability. This expression of support highlights the UAE’s commitment to regional alliances and its stance against threats that may disrupt peace and security in the region.
