The United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance rail and energy connectivity between the two countries, a move aimed at boosting economic cooperation and improving regional infrastructure. The agreement, signed in Riyadh by UAE’s Minister of Investment Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi and Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Energy Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, sets a framework for collaborative development in these sectors.

This MoU outlines plans to explore rail links that could facilitate the movement of goods and cargo across borders, potentially increasing the efficiency of supply chains and simplifying transportation. Technical and economic studies will be conducted to assess the viability and benefits of such links, with an eye towards strengthening logistics networks and trade between the neighboring nations.

In addition to rail infrastructure, the agreement encompasses cooperation in electricity interconnection. This includes plans for the exchange and sale of electricity, with feasibility studies to evaluate the technical, economic, and environmental aspects of expanding electricity links. The initiative aims to improve the efficiency of energy systems and promote regional cooperation.

The MoU also calls for coordination with other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states to expand the regional electricity interconnection network. This broader initiative seeks to enhance energy-system efficiency and support long-term infrastructure development across the Gulf region.

Through these efforts, both nations aim to support economic development and foster closer economic ties, reflecting a commitment to regional collaboration and infrastructure advancement.
