In a bid to ease tensions in the Gulf region, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed took part in a crucial phone call with US President Donald Trump and other regional leaders to deliberate on the ongoing conflict with Iran. The conversation aimed to bolster diplomatic initiatives that could help in reducing hostilities and fostering regional stability.
Among the participants in this high-stakes dialogue were Bahrain’s King Hamad, Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Jordan’s King Abdullah II, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman, and Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir. Their collective efforts are focused on enhancing cooperation amid persistent instability in the area.
The discussions coincided with signals from the United States about progress in its negotiations with Iran, hinting at the possibility of reaching an agreement soon. This development is seen as a positive step towards mitigating the longstanding conflict that has affected several countries in the region.
Since the conflict’s onset on February 28, the UAE, along with other Gulf nations, has been subjected to numerous missile and drone attacks orchestrated by Iran. Although a temporary ceasefire had managed to halt hostilities earlier in the year, recent attacks have reignited concerns about the security and stability of the region.
