The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention has announced that there are no Ebola cases in the country following the transit of an individual later diagnosed with the virus in Uganda. The traveller, identified as a Congolese national, passed through the UAE before testing positive for Ebola in Uganda. Officials clarified that during the transit, the individual did not visit any healthcare facilities in the UAE.
In response to the situation, the ministry is collaborating with the World Health Organization to enforce precautionary measures. These include conducting risk assessments, tracing contacts, and enhancing health surveillance in accordance with international health protocols. Authorities have reiterated that the Ebola outbreak is primarily confined to the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda, with the WHO assessing the global public health risk as low.
As a preventive measure, the UAE government has advised its citizens and residents to avoid unnecessary travel to regions affected by the outbreak, namely the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, and South Sudan. This advisory is part of ongoing efforts to monitor developments related to the virus and ensure public safety.
Ebola is recognized as a severe viral illness transmitted through direct contact with bodily fluids of infected individuals. The disease presents symptoms such as fever, fatigue, headaches, vomiting, and diarrhea, with severe cases leading to organ failure and internal bleeding.
