Thailand is enhancing its global aviation connections through strategic collaborations with Vietnam Airlines and flydubai, alongside upgrades to its regional airport infrastructure aimed at bolstering tourism and connectivity. The initiatives are set to improve air travel options and cater to the growing number of tourists visiting the country.
Vietnam Airlines recently inaugurated a new flight route between Ho Chi Minh City and Phuket, starting from July 2. This service operates four times weekly, offering an annual capacity of around 39,500 seats. The route is designed to accommodate the increasing travel demand from Vietnam, which saw over 300,000 of its citizens visit Thailand in the first half of the year alone.
Meanwhile, flydubai has expanded its operations by launching daily flights between Dubai and Bangkok from July 1. The airline plans to further increase this service to twice daily starting September 15, thereby strengthening the air travel link between the United Arab Emirates and Thailand.
Aside from these new partnerships, Thailand is also set to implement the Aerodrome Flight Information Service (AFIS) at its regional airports. This system is intended to enhance air traffic management, operational efficiency, and accessibility to secondary cities. The AFIS will initially be rolled out at Phrae and Phetchabun airports by 2028, with potential plans for further expansion to other regional airports in the coming years.
